Mrs. Judy Araujo's science of reading classroom

This is my little purple classroom for the 2025/26 school year!

About Me

Welcome! I’m Judy Araujo, and I’m thrilled you’re here.

This website actively supports parents, teachers, and caregivers as they help children develop strong reading and writing skills. Since launching in May 2012, I have continuously updated it with evidence-based strategies, practical tips, and classroom-tested literacy methods.

Above all, my mission is to make the science of reading accessible and practical for anyone teaching young learners—whether at home, in classrooms, or in specialized settings.

A Global Literacy Community

Over time, this site has grown far beyond what I ever imagined. With nearly 13 million page views from educators and families in over 168 countries, it reflects a worldwide commitment to high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction.

Equally rewarding is connecting with the people who use this site. I regularly receive emails from professors, classroom teachers, reading specialists, tutors, and parents. Whenever possible, I respond personally to questions and requests for guidance.

Because of this ongoing interaction, I deeply value the trust placed in my experience and expertise.

What You’ll Find on This Site

In addition to my original teaching explanations and instructional guidance, I have carefully curated high-quality, free literacy resources from across the web. These include:

Each resource is chosen to support effective, engaging literacy instruction while saving educators and families valuable time.

Grounded in the Science of Reading

All strategies and instructional recommendations on this site are research-based and firmly grounded in the science of reading. You can trust that the methods are developmentally appropriate and designed to strengthen foundational reading and writing skills.

Moreover, I emphasize clarity and practical application. I not only show how to use a strategy but also explain why it works, so educators can make informed decisions in their instruction.

Professional Background

I have been a certified teacher in the Boston, Massachusetts area since May 1990. Over the decades, I have helped thousands of children learn to read, addressing diverse abilities, learning styles, and instructional needs.

This hands-on classroom experience informs everything I share—from phonics and spelling explanations to guidance on teaching complex concepts clearly and effectively.

Thank You!

Thank you for visiting and exploring this literacy-focused community. Whether you are a parent, educator, or caregiver, I hope you find support, clarity, and confidence here as you help children become skilled, joyful readers.
